Es una capacidad que los niños adquieren poco a poco y depende de manera directa del desarrollo alcanzado, la edad cronológica, la madurez socio-afectiva y el nivel intelectual.

La PAIDOGRAFÍA es la disciplina grafológica que se dedica al estudio en profundidad de las características particulares de la escritura del niño y el adolescente lo que nos permite averiguar sus capacidades intelectuales, sentimentales y volitivas.

Se estudian los signos gráficos que aparecen, en un momento concreto de la evolución de niños y adolescentes en su escritura, relacionados con su potencial intelectivo, dificultades de aprendizaje y de socialización, así como una aproximación a la emotividad y a los signos de inseguridad.

Evolución del niño/a desde la falta de destreza (incapacidad motriz) hacia la capacidad motriz y su regularidad. La escritura está en construcción, los alumnos conscientemente siguen lo más fielmente que sus habilidades les permiten el modelo caligráfico adquirido en la escuela. Se corresponde con la fase precaligráfica de Ajuriaguerra.
2) Segundo proceso de automatización de la escritura: desde los 10 a los 12 años. El niño/a se afianza en su madurez y equilibrio, superando las dificultades de dominio anteriores. Se corresponde con la fase caligráfica de Ajuriaguerra.
3) Tercer proceso de automatización de la escritura: desde los 12 a los 18/20 años. La exigencia de velocidad a la hora de escribir produce la adaptación de los cánones caligráficos a patrones personalizados. Se corresponde con la fase post-caligráfica de Ajuriaguerra.
